THOR Storm Mapper has shipped a major feature update for June 2026. Every addition below is designed to help roofing contractors and storm chasers find damage faster, prioritize the right markets, and operate efficiently from any device — including a phone on the job site.
Timeline Playback — Time-Travel Through Storm History
The new Timeline Playback Bar lets you scrub backward and forward through historical storm data. Select any date range and watch events appear on the map in chronological order. This is invaluable for reconstructing storm paths after the fact — for example, identifying which neighborhoods were hit first during a multi-hour supercell event so you can prioritize your canvassing route the next morning.
Storm Hierarchy Panel — State → County → ZIP Drill-Down
The Storm Hierarchy Panel gives you a structured breakdown of storm activity organized by geography. Start at the state level to see which states have the most confirmed events, drill into a specific state to see county-level counts, then drill into a county to see individual ZIP codes. This hierarchy makes it trivial to identify exactly where the highest-density damage corridors are — without scrolling through hundreds of map markers.
Impact Mode — Geographic Density Overlays
Impact Mode replaces individual markers with color-coded geographic boundaries (state or county level) shaded by event density. At a glance you can see which regions have been hit hardest over your selected time window. This is the fastest way to answer the question “where should my crew go next week?” — the darkest boundaries represent the highest concentration of confirmed storm reports.
Weather Alert System — 48-Hour Proximity Notifications
Configure a radius around any location and THOR will notify you when new storm reports are filed within that zone over the next 48 hours. Set alerts for your home market, a city you are considering traveling to, or a specific neighborhood where you have active jobs. Alerts are delivered in-app with severity classification so you can distinguish between a minor wind event and a catastrophic hail storm without opening the full map.
Storm Cluster Layer
When dozens or hundreds of events overlap in the same region, the Storm Cluster Layer groups nearby markers into labeled clusters showing the total event count. Click any cluster to zoom in and see individual events. This keeps the map readable at national and regional zoom levels while preserving access to every data point when you need it.
Storm Track Layer — Historical Storm Paths
The Storm Track Layer draws the actual paths of confirmed storm cells across the map. Each track is color-coded by severity and type, showing you exactly where a storm traveled and how intense it was at each point along its path. Use this to identify neighborhoods that took a direct hit versus those on the periphery.
Radar Overlay
Toggle the Radar layer to see current precipitation and storm cell activity overlaid directly on the map alongside historical data. This lets you monitor developing storms in real time while simultaneously reviewing past damage reports in the same view — no switching between apps.
Mobile-Optimized UI
Every panel, control, and overlay has been rebuilt for mobile. The Detection Controls and Storm Hierarchy open as bottom sheets on phones and tablets. Layer toggles live in a scrollable chip row below the header. GPS locate puts you on the map with one tap. The Timeline bar repositions cleanly on small screens. If you are running doors or inspecting roofs, you can check THOR from your pocket without fighting a desktop-only interface.
